Le 4e congrès international des recherches féministes dans la francophonie plurielle, qui a lieu tous les trois ans, fait suite à celui de Québec (1996), de Dakar (1999) et de Toulouse (2002). En 2005, il réunit plus de 250 communicatrices - des professeures, des chercheures, des doctorantes, des militantes d'organisations non gouvernementales et des groupes de femmes dont la langue de travail est le français - en provenance de plus de 20 pays. Elles feront le bilan des avancées dans la réalisation de l'égalité des sexes, des obstacles qui persistent et des moyens à mettre en uvre pour les aplanir.

Journalists and editors from several Pristina and Belgrade media gathered yesterday at the Belgrade-Pristina Media Dialogue meeting, organized in Belgrade under the auspices of the Civil Dialogue. The participants in the event estimated that the media from Kosovo and Serbia should cooperate and exchange information.

Since Sunday 19 the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) has been on general red alert with EZLN troops called into the mountains of Chiapas, and Zapatista communities advised to flee by their Juntas de Buen Gobierno (Governing Councils), amid fears that war in Chiapas is likely to resume. The Zapatista "Caracoles" or "centers of zapatista autonomy" have also been closed [Pics of the Caracoles La Garrucha and Morelia]

We do not want decisions taken in small groups behind closed doors," said an NGO representative participating in last week's UN meetings to plan for September's UN World Summit on the Millennium Goals. Civil society organizations propose similar consultations be held with the NGO community before all major summits, as they have firsthand experience on the issues and governments would benefit from their expertise.

Selon de nouvelles recherches dont les résultats sont publiés ce mercredi 22 juin 2005, en exportant des armes de manière irresponsable dans certains des pays les plus pauvres et les plus touchés par la guerre, les États du G8 ne tiennent pas leurs engagements de réduire la pauvreté, de ramener la stabilité et de faire respecter les droits humains. Des armes ont ainsi été exportées dans des pays comme la Colombie, le Myanmar (ex-Birmanie), les Philippines, la République du Congo et le Soudan.

The deal announcing 100% debt cancellation from some sources for 18 countries marks an enormous victory for advocates around the world. But work remains to achieve the full vision of debt cancellation: the G-8 deal does not represent full debt cancellation for Africa and the global South, and many countries are still spending more on debt service than on health care and education.

Wangari Maathai, founder of the famous Greenbelt Movement and African Nobel Laureate, lay her wisdom upon the U.S. NGO community recently. "Unless we manage resources more equitably, we wont have peace. To do that there has to be democratic space," she told a Washington, D.C. gathering.

Madhavi was bathing her two year old son when giant tidal waves swept them both out of their home. As she tried to run away from the foaming waters, her little son was swept away while she found herself dragged down into the sand. The fact that all this happened in a minute has so confused her that she refuses to accept reality, and her current status of a destitute bereft of all kith and kin.

A Senate Republican report calls on President Bush to reassess financial support for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), alleging the funds are used to lobby against U.S. interests. ICRC's president said the senators simply want to discredit the organization after the Red Cross exposed widespread prisoner abuse.
