The World Congress on Communication for Development (WCCD) that brought together communication practitioners and developments experts from across the world has issued a final draft of recommendations for governments, policy makers and the development community. The meet that took place from October 25-27, 2006 in Rome says, "Communication for development is essential to make the difference happen".

Shi Tao, the Chinese journalist who was imprisoned after the American search engine company Yahoo provided information to the Chinese authorities that led to his arrest, has been awarded the 2007 Golden Pen of Freedom, the annual press freedom prize of the World Association of Newspapers.

Sri Lanka's first outdoor wireless computer network is now up and running. Surprisingly, it is not in Colombo. It is not even in any of the other key places. It was installed in Mahavilachchiya, a little known village, 40 km from the nearest town Anuradhapura, and surrounded three sides by the Vilpattu jungle.

The representatives of the Civil Platform of Macedonia used the Parliamentary Office for Contacts with NGOs to present their initiative for changes in the Law on Associations in the 3rd Session of the Parliamentary Committee on Political System and Communities Relations of November 1, 2006. The initiative was later submitted for review to all 120 Members of Parliament.

The International Chamber of Commerce in Paris ruled today that the Albanian government must pay back 89 million Albanian LEK (approximately 900,000 USD) in Value Added Tax to the Albanian Education Development Project (AEDP), a nongovernmental organization launched by the Open Society Foundation in Albania.
