Almost every working day of the week at least some 10 people make a beeline to a small bungalow situated in a narrow lane in the heart of the southern Matara town. These people are bringing grievances to the zonal office of Sri Lankas Human Rights Commission. The Disaster Relief Monitoring Unit of the Human Rights Commission has set up an Information Centre at the zonal offices of the Commission in the tsunami-affected areas over compensation-related and other problems.

On the occasion of recent demonstration of hate-speech in Serbian Skupstina (the parliament), when Zoran Krasic, MP from the Serb Radical Party, called Ivana Dulic-Markovic, Minister of Agriculture, an "ustasha" from the pulpit, a group of eight NGOs printed a leaflet to remind the public about previous cases of Radicals' involvement in similar incidents.

On Sunday, June 11, the students Department of Product Design at the Academy of Fine Arts (AFA), in cooperation with visiting artists fom Germany and Canada and the Sarajevo Centre for Contemporary Arts, raised a big DOSTA! logo (5X5 metres), made of black and white balloons. The logo, created in a seven-day workshop held in Sarajevo.

Tejus Crisis and Trauma Foundation, a non-governmental organisation of Bangalore, has launched "Prerana," a disaster management initiative. The objectives will be to prevent disasters, offer rescue services, train citizens to handle natural calamities and help others in times of need such as a major fire or floods. Citizens with training would be able to help the fire services or home guards during emergency.
