The announced availability of the news pre-accession EU funda IPA, was received by NGOs with much joy. On the other hand, it increases their fears of a pull-out or reduction of foreign aid coming into the country. The European Commission published the mandates for negotiations on visa regime alleviation and readmission agreements with Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mandates provide for much simpler and quicker procedure, as well as issuance of multiple entry visas covering longer periods of time for students, researchers, artists and business-people, for travel into the EU.

The opposition VMRO-DPMNE seems the clear winner of the 2006 Parliamentary Elections held yesterday, July 5. According to still unofficial results presented from several sides, VMRO-DPMNE has won between 44 and 46 seats in the new Sobranie of Macedonia (depending on the source), while the incumbent SDSM led coalition won 32 seats.
