Après le coup d'État en avril 2002 et l'échec de la grève patronale en février 2003, l'opposition vénézuélienne s'est lancée corps et âme dans la mise sur pied d'un référendum afin de révoquer le mandat du président Chavez. Mais différentes entorses aux procédures juridiques devant mener à un tel référendum ont signé l'arrêt de mort de ce projet, le 12 septembre. L'opposition n'a toutefois pas dit son dernier mot.

The controversial program that would have allowed U.S. officials to gain access to vast amounts of U.S. citizens' personal data--including credit card, travel, medical, library and even video-rental records--was killed in Congress Thursday due to widespread privacy rights concerns.

Afghan President Hamed Karzai has finally announced that the approval of a new constitution will take place in December. The grand assembly or the Loya Jirga, which will discuss and pass the constitution will be convened in December, and not October.
