28.06.2004 In yesterday’s second round of the 2004 Presidential Election, Boris Tadic, candidate of the reformist Democratic Party, was elected for the Office of the President of Serbia. Tadic won with 53.7% of the votes (1,706,888 votes), while his opponent Tomislav Nikolic, from the Serb Radical Party won 1,431,833 votes, or 45% of the votes. These were the estimated results released by the Centre for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID).

Nel nord dell'Iraq a Kirkuk è stato ucciso un leader religioso kurdo in una situazione che vede i kurdi siriani chiedere la stessa autonomia ottenuta in Iraq, ma ottenendo dal governo siriano la sospensione forzata di tutte le attività dei parititi organizzati. Un clamoroso gesto di protesta arriva dall’inviato speciale dell'Onu in Iraq, Lakhdar Brahimi, che si è dimesso denunciando di essere stato messo da parte dagli Usa durante il processo di formazione del governo ad interim.
