A soldier was injured during heavy fighting between Kenyan and Ethiopian forces in Moyale District, northern Kenya, after about 60 Ethiopian soldiers crossed the border in pursuit of suspected Oromo Liberation Front rebels. Drought has made historic border tensions even worse, with constant cross-border raids and stock theft.

In Nicaragua, the US government continues to flex its muscles to achieve an electoral defeat of Daniel Ortega in the November presidential elections. Ortega, president during the Sandinista revolution in the 1980s, is running for president for the fourth time since his first defeat in 1990.

The European Movement in Serbia, in cooperation with other European Movements in the Western Balkans and the International European Movement, protested the announced rise in visa fees for the citizens of the Western Balkans, to be decided at the April 27 meeting of the European Council for Justice and Internal Affairs, in Luxemburg.

The Citizens Pact for SEE starts a campaign against the announced raise in EU visa fees. The European Council for Justice and Home Affairs is expected to decide, at the end of April, on EU visa fees increase from EURO 35 to EURO 60 for citizens of third countries. According to announcements, the implementation of new fees will start on January 1, 2007.
