The findings of the survey done by WHO in six states of India, distinctly states that health costs are out of the reach of the poor and made them more vulnerable to ill-health. In fact for many, poverty has been exacerbated due to debt and selling of assets for the meeting of health expenses.

KRITI: a development research, praxis and communication team will be releasing a Hindi version of their publication From Thought to Action: Strategies to combat Violence against Women, entitled Aurato ke Khilaf Hinsa: Dhrishtikon aur Rannitiyan at the Amphitheatre, India Habitat Centre, on the 4th of May 2007 from 6.30 pm onwards. The book shares findings from an in-depth field-based study and suggests possible interventions.

Last Friday, April 13, approximately 50,000 Albanians responded to the Prime Ministers attacks on the media through a peaceful manifestation in Skenderbej Square, thereby marking the largest manifestation ever witnessed in Albania since the rise of the pluralist system. This manifestation was not coordinated by political parties; rather, it was jointly organized by civil society and the media.

Kerala has emerged as the top performing state while West Bengal finds itself in the bottom five (with Bihar in the last spot) in an official survey on the health of elementary education in the country in 2005-06. The District Information System for Education data, compiled by government think tank NUEPA, took access, infrastructure, teacher and outcome indicators into account to compute the Educational Development Index

Balraj Puri from the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) says that terrorism in the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir has dwarfed the human rights of orphans, widows, handicapped, weaker sections, displaced persons and many others. At its session of April 4, 2007, the Government of Croatia adopted the draft-Law on Confirmation of Kyoto Protocols to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The draft was prepared by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Spatial Planning and Construction.
