Between November 22 and 24, a shipment of six truckloads of corn returned to Croatia, originally exported to Hungary, to a known buyer, by Agragold Company from Zagreb. The Hungarians returned the corn accompanied with a report by a Budapest laboratory which states that the shipment contained genetically modified corn, report Osijek Greens.

The government and senior police officers will be taken to court by a UK human rights group unless they provide evidence they have investigated reports that CIA 'torture flights' have landed in Britain or used British airspace.

Campaigners welcomed Total Oil's "humiliating climbdown" on Tuesday Âin a case in which the company was being sued in French courts over its involvement in forced labour in Burma. In an out of court settlement, the company agreed to set up a £3.5 million humanitarian fund.

The “No Shame” action organized yesterday in Zagreb by the Autonomous Women’s House Zagreb, B.a.B.e. women human rights group, and the ROSA Centre for women victims of War>, and with participation by the Zenska Soba (Women Room) organization, marked the International Day of Fight against Violence against Women. The topic of the action was the violence against women and the legal and judicial treatment of the criminal offence of rape.

The Serbian Victimology Society requested a meeting with Vida Petrovic - Skero, the Head of the Supreme Court of Serbia, to discuss the judicial practices in murder cases caused by family violence. In a letter to Petrovic - Skero, the Victimology Society said that the current judicial practice is "...inadequate for cases of murders of satraps, committed by female victims".

The Netherlands is demanding guarantees from its NATO partners in Afghanistan and from President Hamid Karzai that prisoners will be treated in a humane manner, according to international law. In reaction to criticism in parliament, Foreign Minister Ben Bot said these guarantees were an important condition for the participation of Dutch troops in a dangerous mission in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan.

On November 22, the Office of Ombudsperson in Kosovo received a copy of a new circular recently sent (15th November) to the presidents of all courts of Kosovo, in which the Director of the DOJ noted, more than 15 months later, that some of the above cases (500) are not as difficult to process as originally thought.

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia annulled earlier today the changes in the Law on Public Gathering which banned, some four months ago, all public gatherings within 100 metres from the buildings of the Croatian Sabor, the Presidential Offices, the Government of Croatia and the Constitutional court.

Vesna Skare Ozbolt, Minister of Justice in the Croatian Government, announced last Sunday, November 20, that she will propose changes in the Criminal Code, which will erase slander and libel as criminal offence in all cases of public expression, including journalism, works of fiction, scientific works and other activities.

Under the framework of the "Assistance in Drafting of the Environmental Laws in SEE" CARDS Project, the Regional Environmental Centre (REC) - Country office Albania, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Water Management (MEFWM), and with the support of the EU, organised a national meeting "Law on Noise Pollution, in harmony with the EU legislation". The meeting was held yesterday, at the International Hotel, Tirana.
