Transparency International Croatia reacted today to the draft-Law on Financing of Political Parties that entered parliamentary procedure earlier this week. TIC believes that the Law is an important step forward in creation of legal framework for fight against corruption, but that this draft has one great defect – it doesn’t regulate the financing of election campaigns.

Under the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, the Anima Centre for Women and Peace Studies from Kotor sent an open letter to the Montenegrin Parliament, Government, political parties, the Parliamentary Committee on Gender Equality and the Office of Gender Equality, with the demand that the status of women as constitutional part of the state body is confirmed in the preparation of the new Constitution of Montenegro.

The Media Development Centre (MDC) and the Association of Private Electronic Media of Macedonia (APEMM) publicly oppose the initiative for a Law on Changes and Amendments to the Law on Broadcasting, which provides for extension of the deadline for transformation of local public radio stations for additional six months.

According to a report released earlier today, the Ministry of Interior adopted a decision to grant asylum to a seeker, for the first time in Croatia. Asylum was granted to a female Sudanese national who sought asylum on basis of violation of religious freedoms and sexual mutilation.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 15 (OneWorld) - Human rights lawyers were joined by two winners of the Nobel Peace prize in filing charges in Germany Tuesday, accusing outgoing U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld of committing war crimes in Iraq and the U.S.-controlled Guantanamo Bay prison camp in Cuba.

A two-day seminar aimed at improving the standards of judicial ethics among Albanian judges ended today in the city of Durres. A similar event took place earlier this week in Shkodra with the participation of judges from district courts from northern Albania.

The representatives of the Civil Platform of Macedonia used the Parliamentary Office for Contacts with NGOs to present their initiative for changes in the Law on Associations in the 3rd Session of the Parliamentary Committee on Political System and CommunitiesÂ’ Relations of November 1, 2006. The initiative was later submitted for review to all 120 Members of Parliament.

The International Chamber of Commerce in Paris ruled today that the Albanian government must pay back 89 million Albanian LEK (approximately 900,000 USD) in Value Added Tax to the Albanian Education Development Project (AEDP), a nongovernmental organization launched by the Open Society Foundation in Albania.
