The Nobel Peace Prize 2007has been jointly awarded to Al Gore and the UN's IPCC for their efforts to build and disseminate knowledge about man-made climate change. IPCC chairman Rajendra Pachauri hopes the award would bring a "greater awareness and a sense of urgency" to the fight against global warming.

The Gandhi Tour music festival began in 2006 at the Earthdance Festival in California to spread Mahatma Gandhis message of non-violence and peace. Its multicultural character is reflected in its members who are from Switzerland, Philippines, Africa and Australia. Musicians and artists of the Gandhi Tour will organize a Stand Up event during their upcoming performance at the CMJ Music Festival in New York next week.

The Indian Prime Minister said the value of non-violence as preached by Mahatma Gandhi is still relevant today. The 138th birth anniversary of the Mahatma on October 2 has been declared as the International Day of Non-violence.
