Substantial progress has been achieved in addressing the issue violence against women over the period. However, there is increased violence in societies today, and a continuing gap between political commitment and adequate resources. The key challenge that remains is to move the issue from awareness that it is a human rights violation and a crime, to making it socially unacceptable and counter to community norms.

SG have been very active at COP 12 Nairobi conference. Among other things, they've visited the Youth Solar project in one of the slums of Nairobi. Young people there are making small solar panels, which they sell, and the profit is reinvested in youth projects on various issues.
