In New York Secretary-General Kofi Annan rang the Peace Bell, on the seared fields of conflict in Somalia appeals rang out to end the violence and in Afghanistan children flew the once forbidden kites of hope as the United Nations system today marked the annual International Day of Peace from its stately Headquarters building to the furthest flung trenches of warfare.

OneWorld Radio in collaboration with UNICEF are hosting a contest for radio features and public service announcements to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and highlight young peoples participation in the media. The contest highlights OneWorld/UNICEFs ongoing commitment to youth participation and development. The contest will also offer an additional opportunity to promote OneWorld/UNICEFs HIV/AIDS campaign Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS, in which UNICEF played a critical coordinating role.

The World Intellectual Property Rights (WIPO), the permanent UN body on copyrights and associated rights, currently discusses the Draft Broadcasting Treaty. The Treaty proposes new and serious restriction on the rights of the authors of broadcast works and free exchange of contents over the internet, especially for podcasters and podcasting organizations.
