Millions of hungry people the world over will be at risk, if the UN food agency is not able to collect upwards of $750 million to buy food from international market. The rising food prices have caused this shortfall.

BBC World is showing seven-part investigative series: Women on the Frontline, focusing on gender violence. The films have been made with the support of several UN agencies. One in three women worldwide suffer from brutalities often at the hands of their own family members and threaten them more than cancer, malaria or war.

A new International Labour Organization report says the workplace is helping tackle HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination through greater tolerance and improved attitude towards affected co-workers. The report, which covers 650 workplaces in 24 countries, also notes an increased acceptance of condom use.

World food prices have risen by 45% in last few months. FAO, UNIDO and IFAD have underlined the need for corrective measures to reverse this trend. At a press conference in the Indian capital they highlighted the role of agro-industries in overcoming this crisis.

UNHCR and Google have unveiled the "Google Earth Outreach" programme to help understand the refugee world and ongoing humanitarian efforts. All you have to do is to sit in front of your computer and it will take you on a virtual reality tour in Chad, Iraq, Columbia and Sudan.

Campaign is in full swing for the historic April 10 Constituent Assembly polls in Nepal. In its final assessment report, the UN has urged political groups to refrain from violent and intimidating tactics. The report also says that there have been attempts to buy votes using state resources.

UN Secretary-General has assured Afghanistan that his agency will not move out of the country as long as development needs of the strive-torn nation are not met. He warned that the cost of disengagement would be far greater than the cost of engagement and underlined the need for continued effort by international community.

The climate change talks, currently going on in Bangkok, will deal with commitments made by the developed nations to meet their greenhouse gas emission targets. The current round will also negotiate for a post Kyoto Protocol global environmental treaty to be sealed during the Copenhagen meet in 2009.

In line with the policy of closing down all refugee camps in Pakistan by December next year, the government continues to send back Afghan nationals back to their country. In March alone, over 10,000 of them were repatriated. Currently, over three million registered and unregistered Afghan refugees are living in Pakistan.
