The Metropolitan Police is considering measures to fast-track cops from ethnic minorities to reflect and better represent Londons diverse racial communities. Race campaigners urge Met Commissioner Sir John Stevens not to be deterred by "reactionary forces" and to drive through these much needed changes.

Shareholders from Azerbaijan and Georgia expressed outrage yesterday as oil giant BP refused them access to its AGM in London. They had come to raise concerns about the controversial Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. The Baku-Ceyhan coalition includes PLATFORM, Corner House and Friends of the Earth.

Greenpeace climbers dressed as Mickey and Minney Mouse climbed Disney's west London HQ early today to unveil a banner reading "Disney: Stop Selling Toxic Pyjamas to Kids". Tests show that Disney-branded pyjamas contain toxic chemicals, but the company has refused to stop selling them.

Campaigners from the CEE Bankwatch Network will stage a mock whale funeral with a 20ft whale outside the London HQ of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on Friday 16 April at 9am to protest at the threat posed to the Western Pacific grey whale by plans, led by Shell, to expand oil and gas extraction off Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East.
