18.05.2007 Funded by the UK’s Department for International Development, a £3.9 million (approximately US$7.8 million) project has been launched to help poor farmers in developing countries of the future outbreaks of avian influenza. The project also involves research in developing countries on the strategies for the control of disease and to safeguard their livelihood.

Government representatives, NGOs and international health experts plan to chalk out guidelines for hospital hygiene and safety of healthcare workers. The conference is organised by German Technical Cooperation (GTC) and Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests, in alliance with HCWM Cell of M.S Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore.

02.05.2007 The recent United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, released worldwide, is the most detailed account of the effects of climate change driven by human activity. Chairman of the IPCC, Rajendra Pachauri says India is unprepared for the outcome that could lead to widespread floods, drought, water scarcity and mass migration, scoring a poor 5 on a scale of 10.
