International agency Oxfam called on US Members of Congress today to reject the Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Central American countries and the Dominican Republic (DR-CAFTA.) Oxfam believes that the agreement, in its current form, will do more harm than good and will endanger the livelihood of many thousands of small farmers who already live in poverty.

The implementation of panchamukhi by Dr. Marulasiddaiah has changed the face of the village as everybody is part of the development process and is trying to make the village a model for other villages in the region.

Norway tops the European league table of family-friendly nations as far as new fathers are concerned, and the government is now proposing to extend the "daddy quota" from four to five weeks, for exclusive use by the father. An ILO study reports.

La vague de solidarité sans précédent, tant au Canada qu'à l'étranger, a certainement touché les dirigeants du G8 réunis à Gleneagles, mais ces derniers ont laissé passer l'occasion de faire une percée historique dans la lutte contre la pauvreté. « S'ils ont pris des mesures positives notamment en doublant l'aide à l'Afrique, ils ont par contre manqué le coche en ce qui concerne un ensemble de mesures relatives à l'aide, à la dette et au commerce » a déclaré Gerry Barr, coprésident de la campagne Abolissons la pauvreté.

Financial support by the World Bank for 279 projects in developing countries rose by $2.2 billion in 2005, the international lending body revported this week. In addition, the Bank says their overall lending quality increased due to better preparation, greater selectivity, and more effective supervision.
