24.07.2006 Villagers Sanjay Colony (Bhagirath Nagar) - in the Indian capital city of Delhi - condemned the Indian and the Delhi government on Sunday for trying to evict them from their homes. They were testifying before a panel of activists and NGOs on how the government planned to uproot a residential area where the government itself had built schools, hospitals and roads for the people.

24.07.2006 As talks towards defining the final status Kosovo continue today in Vienna, Amnesty International calls on the participants to ensure that the protection of human rights of all persons in Kosovo remain at the heart of the process, and are addressed at every stage and in all aspects of the talks.

An Indian village
21.07.2006 Nearly 4,500 families in village Sanjay Colony in the Indian capital, who face the imminent threat of demolition and forced eviction, plan to hold a public hearing on 23 July, Sunday, to protest against the Delhi government's decision to evict them from their village. The hearing will be attended by eminent development practitioners and human rights activists - Miloon Kothari, Prashant Bhushan, Ravi Agarwal, Medha Patkar, Prabhash Joshi and Bela Bhatia - at Bhatti Mines in south Delhi.

14.07.2006 Tonka Rakusic, 60-year old citizen of Zagreb, was arrested yesterday while standing peacefully in the St. Mark’s Square in Zagreb, holding a banner that declared “I am a victim of judicial and police crime”. The Law on Public Gathering prohibits all forms of public gathering within 100-meter circle around the buildings of the Croatian Sabor, the President of the Republic, the Government and Constitutional Court. GONG association strongly protested the arrest.

12.07.2006 Indian campaigners have voiced their disappointment over the stand taken by the Indian government to block an agreement that would have stopped small arms sales that break international humanitarian law. The proposal was discussed at the UN World Conference on Small Arms, which ended on July 7 in New York. The agreement, which was backed by over 100 countries was opposed by India, Iran, Israel, Pakistan and Cuba.
