Delhi based NGO Toxics Link has urged the Indian government to phase out the usage of mercury in the country after the European Union Parliament banned mercury trade. India being the second largest user and importer of the heavy metal, at the same time time it has serious public health implications in the country.

The Indian governmentÂ’s cash initiatives are sweeping a healthy competition across the country, says Jaipur-based activist Kalyan Singh Kothari. The Nirmal Gram Puruskars are part of the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) that hopes to achieve full sanitation coverage in India by 2012.

Sri LankaÂ’s Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), in partnership with the Colombo University medical faculty, will provide rural patients with remote medical consultation and treatment. A rural hospital in the islandÂ’s north-central region has been set up with computer facilities and a broadband link to particularly deal with people suffering genetic disorders.

The study entitled “Restoring Daurala: Mitigating Industrial Pollution - A paper on corporate responsibility” by Heather Lewis, is a documentation of best practice in northern India, where the findings of a study on the disastrous consequences of industrialization has led to the industry taking corrective action and renewal. After all, this must be the objective of any research or a study.

Asian superstar, the award winning singer/songwriter Nimal Mendis announced in London that his Song for Autism, titled 'Open Every Door' will be used to raise funds for the British charity, Autism Speaks UK. Mendis was born in Sri Lanka where there are 39,000 people with autism who are struggling to access public services.
