30.12.2005 Collector Navin Mittal of Krishna district in Vijayawada announced that the district administration would open special hostels for children of HIV-positive parents from the next academic year. Vidya volunteers would be appointed to take care of the needs of those children at the hostels.

27.12.2005 Data indicate that Nepal has passed from being a "low risk" country to being one with a "concentrated epidemic", that is, one in which HIV prevalence is consistently over five percent in one or more defined sub-populations. In Nepal, core sub-groups are found among Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) nationwide and Female Sex Workers (FSWs) in Kathmandu and the Nepal-India border. The overall goal of the multi-donor project is to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS into the general population.

14.12.2005 A report released yesterday warns of HIV crisis in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, if policies protecting sex workers and public are not created. It shows that in this region experiencing one of the fastest-growing and mainly drug use driven HIV epidemics in the world sex work, drug use, and HIV are inextricably linked. Comprehensive action and greater commitment is critical to prevent the spread of HIV among sex workers and into the general population, says the report produced by Central and Eastern European Harm Reduction Network.

06.12.2005 G. Karunanidhi reveals the emotions and trials of living with HIV in Tamil Nadu, India. Reflecting on his own search for support, he founded three "Positive Living Centers," which today serve 1,400 people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The Centers also give Karunanidhi a reason to live.

05.12.2005 Through the bad news on AIDS released last week, there was some very important good: programs that integrate prevention and treatment have been implemented in Uganda, Tanzania, Thailand, and elsewhere. It's time to replicate these programs and begin to take a holistic approach to fighting AIDS, says women's rights advocate Yifat Susskind.
