Eighty three per cent of refugee women feel so unsafe in Britain that they live under a self-imposed curfew, locking themselves indoors after 7pm. Refugee Action has documented (pdf) their experiences and campaigns for their right to live in safety. Thousands of asylum seekers are hungry and destitute thanks to Section 55 of the Nationality, Asylum and Immigration Act 2002, which denies them state aid if they dont claim within three days of arriving in the UK. The Coalition Against the Destitution of Asylum Seekers (CADAS) is campaigning to overturn this law. Read the Refugee Council's report (pdf) about the the impact of Section 55 on asylum seekers.
