WOMANKIND Worldwide has taken part in a radio debate on the issue of Female Genital Mutilation on National Public Radio in the US. East Africa programme officer Edward Wageni was joined on air by Bogaletch Gebre, founder of Kembatta Women's Self-Help Centre in Ethiopia. The Centre was recently commended by the UN for its "breakthrough" work to combat FGM.

Film producer, environmentalist and actor Trudie Styler is to become national ambassador for UNICEF UKs End Child Exploitation Fundraising Appeal. Trudie has pledged to raise one million pounds for UNICEFs current campaign, working to protect millions of children from the worst forms of exploitation child labour, child trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.

Plan UK has published a new report assessing the contribution of children in development. Often ignored in the decision-making process, the charity has found - not surprisingly - that kids can make a positive impact in raising awareness of community problems and contributing to solutions.

ODI and DFID have announced a partnership to bridge international development research and policy. In a long-term effort to help think-tanks and NGOs contribute more effectively to policy in such areas as aid, trade and poverty reduction, they will sponsor research, build capacity, and help Southern civil society target key decisions for improved policy impact.

Over the past few years Pedrina Mamanis community has been developing a tourism venture that offers people from the far corners of the Earth the opportunity to come and stay in the community and see the effect of fair trade in Peru. The venture is being developed together with several other rural communities in the Peruvian Andes that form part of Minka Fair Trade.

Engineers from all over the UK battled it out to raise money for RedR on 28 April at a NEC car park in Birmingham, temporarily turned into a disaster relief zone. The charity trains and provides relief personnel to humanitarian programmes worldwide to work in disaster relief situations.

Nearly 60% of leading disability websites fail basic accessibility checks, although there are a handful of exemplary sites. Findings from the "Disability 50" survey, carried out by Ethical Media, reveal the gap between rhetoric and reality in disability groups' communications and point to an urgent need to address accessibility and usability in the sector.

VSO India have been asked to advise a World Bank study on disability in India. The study aims to highlight the link between disability and poverty so that the World Bank can move from an inclusive disability policy recommendation into policy and practice.

The Save the Children UK website was recognised at the recent Charity and Public Service Publishing Awards 2003. The site was runner-up in the category of Charity and Public Service Website of the Year. The judge commended the home page as "a good example of the kind of balance between navigation, content and graphics".

In January the ActionAid family all over the world joined hands to form ActionAid International. Ramesh Singh of ActionAid UK took on the role of CEO of the new organization, based in South Africa. Allavida's Alliance magazine asked Singh about the process of "internationalisation" that has been going on at ActionAid for some five years.
