15.04.2008 As a first legislative step towards getting rid of the remnants of Emergency, the new Pakistani government has tabled a bill in the national assembly seeking to revoke the draconian gag imposed on the country’s electronic media. A separate bill is also round the corner that will undo the restrictions on print media.

02.04.2008 Asia may have 8 million more new cases of HIV/AIDS by 2020, according to a new report by the independent Commission on AIDS in Asia. The report, presented to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, is the first ever comprehensive study in the region and calls for immediate priority interventions.
