Although OneWorld has been disseminating information on climate change ever since its inception in 1995, it used to do so as just one of the 88 global justice themes we covered. But in November 2004, the embryonic new OneWorld UK team agreed that this wasnt enough. If the planet wasnt cooled, the majority of humankind could be erased from the planet. What was the use of working on any other kind of global development or human rights issue then?
The penny had dropped that climate change was a sine qua non, a pre-condition for everything else. There could be no global justice without climate justice.
So we put climate issues at the top of our thematic agenda, and focused a lot of our energies on creating a series of new platforms - fertile spaces where people all over the world could inform and motivate one another to take action in solidarity to start cooling down our atmosphere. There was only one climate, and we had only one chance left to do something about it as one humanity, one world.
The central new space, supporting and integrating all these, is www.oneclimate.net, It was a Climate Facebook a social networking space to inspire people all over the world to take action to protect the planet. It helps people and organisations all over the world show and share what are doing. It also offers a response to that frequently asked question, Why should I go green if no one else is?
Its easy to sign in and make your profile, either as an individual or an organisation.
