10.01.2006 Economic gains of any welfare programme undertaken by the Government cannot reach target groups without reforming the body politic, which is plagued with corruption. The state funding of elections is not a remedy for tackling the cancer of corruption in public life. The only way of dealing with the problem is to make public every internal activity of our political parties. Welfare programmes cannot benefit the poor unless Government initiates electoral reforms.
