In partnership with Zelena Istra (Green Istria>, the GONG held a debate in Labin, May 25, to discuss the location of the LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) terminal and the possibility to construct a third thermoelectric power plant in Plomin that would use coal as fuel. The large audience that gathered to follow the debate confirmed the great interest and concern of the local population about the future welfare of their region.

The citizens from three local initiatives and Zelena Akcija activists protested on Tuesday, May 29, in front of Zagreb City Administration Building against the planned construction of 170 million EUR worth incinerator and the adequate ashes storage facility.

During last weeks debate in the Sabor (Croatian Parliament) on the report submitted by Gender Equality Ombudsperson, Karmela Caparin, an MP from the ruling HDZ (Croatian Democratic Community), said that there is more discrimination in labour and employment now, compared to previous years. In her view, the main cause for such regression is the insufficient public visibility of the work done by the Ombudsperson. The Croatian Women Network reacted strongly to that statement, but also to the debate in general.

The city of Zadar, under the auspices of cooperation within NATOs Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and Croatian National Bureau for Protection and Rescue, hosted the 'IDASSA 007', May 21-24. Under the auspices of the project, a variety of catastrophic events and disasters were simulated, such as earthquakes, fires and terrorist attacks.

On May 18, the Croatian Sabor (the Parliament) adopted the Law on Volunteering that regulates the status of all legal and physical persons involved in organized volunteering.

The Ombudsperson for Gender Equality and Government Committee for monitoring and evaluation of implementation of gender equality policies reacted to the beer commercial of Zagrebacka pivovara brewery, that goes with the slogan Zujas Law No.11: Men notice only the important stuff. The said commercial depicts a woman coming home with bags filled with groceries after she went to hairdresser to get done for her man but he totally ignores her showing interest only for beer bottles.

The Transparency International Croatia presented the results of its public opinion survey on financing of election campaigns. The survey was conducted by Promocija Plus Agency, on May 2-3, on a representative sample of 1,300 persons, under the auspices of the Preventing Political Corruption project.

On the occasion of May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO), the Legal Team of Iskorak and Kontra, and the Croatian Women Network organized a distribution of We are not homophobic, however... leaflets, as well as leaflets warning of the increased homophobia spread by the Catholic Church.

On May 10, 2007, Zelena akcija environmental association, with the support from the Right to a City initiative, submitted its remarks on certain provisions of the Decision to Adopt the General Urban Plan (GUP), related to the borough of Donji Grad, to the Zagreb Bureau of Spatial Planning.

Last night, the fifth Queer Zagreb festival started with the play "Oedipus in Corinth", directed by Ivica Buljan. The Festival will last for six days and this years edition will deal with the topic of "Balkans Queer".
