Presidents Mesic, Paravac and Marovic at the Igman Initiative Conference
29.06.2005 The civil sector did much more on the establishment of new relations in the region, and their normalization, than the states of the Dayton Triangle themselves. It made an important step forward towards understanding, renewed trust, and opened the doors to the future for the region. These points were reinforced by the 10th Session of the Igman Initiative held in Belgrade last several days.

29.06.2005 The Citizens’ Committee for Human Rights (CCHR) demanded from authorities in all levels of Government to define and implement, without any delay, the measures to protect the children located in Children Homes in Brezovica and Lug from possible abuse and neglect.

Danube area
28.06.2005 The Danube Day, July 29, is international manifestation with many different events are organized in all 13 countries along the Danube River, designed to attract the attention to the need for protection of the Danube and its waters. Events will be organized under the Danube Day observance, with the aim to encourage the states, communities and organizations to cooperate in taking action to protect the rivers in the area.

28.06.2005 The Osijek-based Coalition for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (LSC) currently implements three programmes: a campaign for definition of the status of NGOs that provide free legal assistance; promotion of minority rights; and promotion of European anti-racism and anti-xenophobia values. These are long-term programmes and campaigns that proceed over several years and involve organizations from all over Croatia.

27.06.2005 Under its regular competition for “Youth Programme” funds, the European Commission granted 32 projects to be carried out by organizations in South East Europe. Of that total, five projects will be implemented in Croatia.

15.06.2005 There are remaining 209,5 square kilometers of suspected mine-field in 19 towns and municipalities in the Osijek-Baranja District, which puts the District on the last place of the list of most polluted areas in Croatia in terms of land-mine pollution.

Markov Trg in Zagreb
14.06.2005 The Green Forum, a network of about 30 environmental NGOs, and GONG joined the Croatian Trade Unions in the opposition to the changes in the Law on Public Gathering, announced by the Government of Croatia. Green Forum and GONG believe that the Law is just an additional obstacle to the communication between the citizens and the Government.

13.06.2005 The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development EBRD is one of the most important international financial institutions that funds several projects in Croatia, such as the facilities for processing of waste water in Zagreb and Karlovac, as well as a part of the Rijeka-Zagreb highway. On May 22-23, the General Assembly of EBRD was held in Belgrade, observed by non-governmental organizations.

Cape Kamenjak in Istria
10.06.2005 Zelena Istra has printed a flier ''Conserve the uniqueness of Kamenjak'', designed to educate, inform and direct the tourists about better ways to protect the delicate parts of the peninsula. The flier was printed in Croatian and English language and will be distributed on entrance of this protected area in Istria.
