As a result of the cooperation between the Amnesty International Croatia and the Motovun Film Festival, the Amnesty International Film Award will be awarded for the best short or feature film on the subject of human rights presented at the Festival that will take place July 25-29 in Motovun, Istria.

The last public opinion survey conducted by GfK Croatia, shows that 66.8 percent of the citizens refuse to use genetically modified (GM) food under any circumstances. The survey was conducted on a representative sample of 1,000 citizens older than 15 years of age.

After the latest casualty was claimed by leftover landmines, the Croatian Mine Action Centre warned the citizens not to enter the marked minefields, suspicious looking areas, and to observe the signs that warn of land mines.

On Friday, July 15, HDZ Members of the Sabor (Croatian Parliament) Andrija Hebrang and Jagoda Martincevic strongly condemned the scientific experiments conducted at the Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Sciences in Zagreb, in which dogs bones are broken to test bone-tissue regeneration medicine.

The Croatian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare expressed its concern yesterday, July 14, over the manner in which the media report on cases of criminal offences against children and young adults. According to the Ministry, the media violate the right to privacy, guaranteed and protected by the Convention on the Rights of Children and national legislation.

On July 13, Dalmatia Greens (DG) NGO held an eco-meeting on the springs of the Jadro River. The meeting was s follow up of DG actions to preserve karst waters in Split-Dalmatia District in Croatia.

The Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection announced last week that 28 of the total of 96 projects that applied in the funding competition were approved for financing. This year, the Ministry will distribute a total of two million Kuna in support for projects contributing to improved environmental protection.

The Caravan for Palestina that started on July 5 from Strasbourg to Jerusalem was stopped at the Bregana border crossing on the Slovenia-Croatia border. One activist was arrested and deported back to Slovenia. The Police used force against the activists that engaged in peaceful protest.
