31.01.2007 The “I Love Pula!” civic initiative organized a protest walk, on January 20, 2007, to express its opposition of construction and development works in Pula’s public parks.

24.01.2007 Provoked by the recent events surrounding the removal of Jadranka Cigelj from the position of the head of the Associations’ Bureau, the security checks on the members of the Civil Society Development Council and the mutual blame-game between Cigelj and the Vice-President of the Government, 15 Croatian NGOs wrote and open letter to the Government.

24.01.2007 Last week, the regional women portal www.ekviva.net was official launched. At the moment, the portal gathers information on women issues, as well as civil society topics, in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. It has an international editorial office with editors sitting in Zagreb, Split, Sarajevo, Tuzla and Belgrade.

23.01.2007 Last Thursday, January 18, 2007, representatives of 15 non-governmental organizations interrupted the “Associations Day” event, organized by the Governmental Associations’ Bureau, with a protest rally.

22.01.2007 The third Freedom to Creativity Festival of Free Culture, Science and Technology starts today, January 22, in Zagreb. The Festival, organized by the Multimedia Institute, will end January 27, 2007. The main topic of this year’s festival will be radio frequency spectrum as a public good, the open communication standards and civic participation in creation of media.

16.01.2007 Today, January 16, 2007, the interactive installation Index of Women by Andreja Kuluncic starts in Split, with placating of posters in the urban space. The installation is part of the international “Women in Crossroads of Ideologies” programme, prepared by Ana Peraica and organized by the Croatian Association of Painters, Split.

15.01.2007 The CESI Association called met on January 11, 2007, to present its concern over the decision of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports to approve the use of the experimental curriculum in health education prepared by the GROZD Association, in ten schools in Croatia. The GROZD programme awaits the approval by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

15.01.2007 Under the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign (November 25 – December 12, 2006), the Centre for Education, Counselling and Research (CESI), in cooperation with a number of secondary schools in Croatia, implemented the You Have 100% Right to Non-Violence – Prevention of Violence in Adolescent Relationships campaign.

12.01.2007 With the aim to strengthen the fight against HIV/AIDS on the internet, the Iskorak Centre for Rights of Sexual and Gender Minorities established the AIDS.HR internet portal. Having in mind the general population in Croatia, the contents were adapted for average citizens, teen-agers, and other uneducated persons with proclivities towards risky behaviour.

11.01.2007 The DIM Association for Civic Education and Social Development and the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb organize presentation of the publication Youth Related Policies in the Republic of Croatia: Implementation of Analysis of public policies in the papers prepared by the students of the Faculty of Political Sciences. The presentation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2007, at 11:00 hours, at the Hall A of the Faculty.

11.01.2007 On Saturday, January 20, 2007, the Croatian Association of Painters – Split opens an exhibition to mark the start of a one-month programme Woman at the Crossroads of Ideologies, prepared by Ana Peraica. The programme includes exhibitions, film and video screenings, mini-symposium, round-table discussions and the opening of the first women reading room.

09.01.2007 Kontra opened yesterday, Monday, January 8, its counselling and advise phone line for lesbians and bisexual women. The office is staffed by trained volunteers from lesbian and bisexual women communities, who work under supervision of a psychologist. Kontra plans to also open an e-mail counselling operation.
