The United Nations' conservation arm has recognised the Nepalese army for its efforts to control the illegal trade in endangered wildlife. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora awarded the Royal Nepalese Army for its "exemplary efforts to combat poaching and illegal trade in endangered species, in particular the leopard, the rhinoceros and the tiger."

An international mission plans to visit Nepal to draw attention to the serious threat to press freedom and also the free expression violations that are continuing to occur in the country. The mission's aim is to support the country's media community and raise concerns with authorities over attacks on journalists.

On the occasion of International WomenÂ’s Day (March 8), Kamala Sarup in NepalNews opines that it is important for women to forget their differences and join hands for common cause. In Nepal, owing to various constraints, women in general and rural women in particular have not been able to build their capacities. The lives of women farmers in remote villages typify the extent of poverty that Nepalis are bound to face. Economic empowerment of women farmers is critical if Nepal is to meet increasing demand for food grains.
