Kemal Causevic, Director of the Bureau of Indirect Taxes (UINO) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced yesterday that all technical and administrative preparations to introduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) were completed.

Thirteen Roma persons, representatives of Roma NGOs and associations from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, took part in the communication skills workshop organized in Sarajevo (December 2-4) by the Media Diversity Institute from London and the Media Plan Institute.

Agency for Gender Equality of BiH, of the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will organize the first Gender Equality Week (Gender Week) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, taking place from 19th until 22nd December, 2005.

Mounir Bouchenaki, Deputy Director General of UNESCO, will present Ljubo Beslic, Mayor of Mostar, with the UNESCO certificate on entry of Stari Most and the historic quarters of Mostar into the Protected Cultural Heritage List. The official ceremony is planned for Saturday, December 17.

During October/November, a series of five one-day modules was held in Vogosca and Lukavac, organised and coordinated by Aida Lipa, the OSCE Mission to BiH DPARD Media Governance Advisor, gathering over 40 municipal officials, NGO representatives and journalists. The OSCE Mission to BiH organized public outreach training for municipal administrations already in 2002 and 2003. This time, however, the participants were not just local administration employees but also representatives of civil society and the media.

After and parallel to the humanitarian initiative, as responsible for the primary needs of the most vulnerable population, but also as a key to start the dialogue and break the isolation of this area, the Project Prijedor from Trento started a permanent activity of peopleÂ’s diplomacy and decentralized cooperation capable of involving the whole community of Prijedor, volunteer experience, NGOs, local authorities, organizations and institutions.

Last Tuesday, December 6, the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development officially launched the “Together in the Fight Against Domestic Violence” campaign. The campaign will be implemented by the end of 2005, and is a part of the “Police Community Work” project.

A petition calling for the arrest of the two men said to have orchestrated the Srebrenica massacre during the Bosnia war was originally drafted in July for the tenth anniversary of the horrific event. Mark the tenth anniversary of the Dayton Accords, which ended the war, by adding your name to the nearly 10,000 signatures already on the petition.

On the occasion of the passing of the Law on Prevention and Eradication of Abuse of Narcotics, adopted by the House of Nations of the B&H Parliament, the EU Police Mission (EUPM) reminded the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina about the further steps that need to be taken regarding this increasing problem.

The Board of the “Living and Working Together” Coalition adopted the draft-Social Programme in its meeting of November 24, 2005. After it passes the round of debate inside the civil society, the draft will be presented to the House of Representatives of the B&H Parliament.

The CURE Foundation from Sarajevo implements the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence campaign in Bosnia and Herzegovina. From the start of the campaign, November 25, a number of educative and creative actions have taken place, implemented through volunteer engagement and in cooperation with a number of civil initiatives in B&H.
