UNITED NATIONS, Mar 28 (OneWorld) - There can be no durable peace in the Sudanese region of Darfur unless major world powers take swift and effective measures to protect civilians and punish those responsible for committing crimes against humanity, say foreign policy experts in a new study released Tuesday.

A high-level UN human rights team today accused the Sudanese government of orchestrating and participating in "large-scale international crimes" in Darfur. But the conflict is also affecting Chad and the Central African Republic. Gérard Prunier says that although all three countries have agreed to respect each others territorial integrity, the diplomatic activity conceals an international political deadlock over potential oil wealth.
