The Action Committee to Save the Bay of Vlora organized a protest, on March 27, 2005, against the planned construction of thermoelectric power plant in the area of Vlora. The protests were joined by numerous environmental organizations from all over the country.

The environmentalists of Vlora, a coastal city in Albania, are among the first environmentalists concerned of the construction of 5 thermoelectric power plants in the bay of Vlora, the construction of the refinery which will produce 36 million tones of petrol per year, the construction of petrol deposits of ARMO as well as of the terminal of the AMBO project that, every day, will furnish the tankers with 300.000 tones petroleum and its by-product.

Representatives of 41 civil society organizations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo/a, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, constituting the Civil Society Forum for the Access to Rights Project under the MARRI regional Initiative of the Stability Pact, gathered in Tirana on March 10 to 12, 2005 to accelerate the improvement of access to rights for people in the region.
