21.01.2006 Over the last two days, the Association of Albanian Municipalities, in cooperation with the "Friedrich Ebert" Foundation, organized a seminar at the Chateau Linza Center on the topic of "Improved relations between the AAM and Municipal Authorities, a necessity of the decentralization process".

19.01.2006 The Government of Albanian submitted a new, much stricter draft-Law on Tobacco and Smoking for Parliamentary review and debate. The draft will completely outlaw sale of cigarettes to children and minors younger than 18, and will present stricter rules for tobacco industry, regarding sale and advertising of tobacco products.

18.01.2006 Four thousand bus-drivers started a national transportation strike on January 16, together with about six thousands bus conductors and service and maintenance workers.

17.01.2006 Albanian immigrants, who live and work in Greece, protested the killing of the 17 years old boy, Edison Zahaj, in Crete. The Federation of the Albanian Associations in Greece informed that a protest was organized in the capital city of Greece, Athens, on January 15.

17.01.2006 Mjaft! is a non-governmental youth organization, the most popular in the pluralist Albania since 1990. Ilur Kulla asks in “Gazeta Shqiptare” whether the Mjaft! has not acted as a proponent of Prime Minister Berisha’s Democratic Party.

16.01.2006 No person under 18 years of age shall be allowed access to bars or other establishments selling alcoholic beverages and spirits. The use of alcoholic drinks will be authorised by law. A group of deputies of the Republican Party, led by the vice-chair of the party’s parliamentary club, Lajla Përnaska, drafted a law that was sent to the Albanian Parliament for approval.
