Because of the fact that no candidate won the required number of votes in the first round, the second round of the Presidential Elections was held, in which the citizens had to choose between Jadranka Kosor and the incumbent Stjepan Mesic. Mesic won the second round with a clear majority of the cast ballots.

Macedonian citizens donated 8,270,000 Denars (approximately 130,000 EUR) in assistance for the population of Southeast Asia. The campaign for collection was organized from January 11-16, and the main event was held on Saturday, January 15, with a series of humanitarian activities on the Macedonia Square and special programme by the Macedonian Television.

Two days ago, we received a telegram from the International Federation of the Red Cross, the Red Crescent and the Austrian Red Cross, informing us that Macedonia should delegate two representatives to the Austrian Red Cross team leaving for Southeast Asia.

The Movement of Environmentalists of Macedonia (DEM) presented the 2004 “Green Apple” Award for special achievement in the field of environmental protection to “Ekologija” review. The periodical won the award for its 10 years of existence and work as the only specialized publication that presents news and educates in the field of environmental protection and protection of natural habitat and human health in Macedonia.

“Days of Solidarity with the Tsunami Victims” campaign will be implemented in Skopje, by January 16. The goal of the campaign is to collect assistance for the thousands of victims of the catastrophe that has stricken Southeast Asia. The action is organized by a group of citizens, supported by a great number of NGOs, associations, companies, and is coordinated by the City of Skopje Government.

By January 9, Macedonian citizens donated some 18,000 Euros worth of assistance for the victims of the Tsunami Waves in Southeast Asia, reported the Macedonian Red Cross.

The Law on the Free Access to Public Information will seriously reduce the opportunities for abuses in the administration and implementation of the legislation. The Law will also accelerate the European integration processes, with its contribution to the rule of the law, fight against the corruption, democratic governance and transparency of the institution.
