The Foundation for Development of Information Technology – Youth Information Centre from Skopje, with the support from the e-Macedonia Foundation, started the new project, “Information-Communication Step Towards Global Standards”, aimed to reduce the information gap between Macedonia and the developed world.

The publication Roms on Integration: Analyses and Recommendations, published by ECMI – European Centre for Minority Issues presents the initial findings on the needs of Roma population in Macedonia. The research was conducted the Roma Expert Group working under the ECMI, with financial support by SIDA.

The Women Centre from Debar organized round-table discussion “Gender Aspects of Decentralized Government” yesterday, at the facilities of Gazi Baba Municipal Building. The discussion was organized under the auspices of the “Strengthening the Women Core” project, with financial support by Kviina Til Kviina, Gazi Baba Municipality and the Council of Europe.

The European Centre for Minority Issues – ECPM presented its proposal for changes in the Election Law, with recommendations to develop and promote realistic and just multiethnic society. The proposal was prepared by the expert group for citizen rights working under the “Roma Expert Groups for Roma Integration”, established by ECMI.

This year, Macedonia marked the International Childhood Cancer Day, acting on the initiative of Peperutka - Macedonian Association of Parents for Fight Against Childhood Cancer and Leukemia. Peperutka held a small ceremony at the “Holiday Inn” Hotel, in which it screened a film about children with cancer and leukemia. The “Peperutka” Association presented its donors and collaborators with special diplomas in gratitude for their support in 2005.

Government of Macedonia (GOM) successfully launched the Apply Online System for State Employment in early January 2006. Only two weeks after the system was installed, the number of applications had already doubled.

The Association of Citizens for Adherence to Regulations filed lawsuits against Prime Minister Vlado Buckovski and Minister of Defense Jovan Manasievski. The Association charges them with abuse of office and unjustified spending of 300,000 EUR from the State Budget.

MASSO, Macedonian Association for Free Sexual Orientation, presented a true case in which homosexuality was treated as a disease by a practicing psychiatrist in Macedonia. MASSO believes that such treatment of non-heterosexuals by certain psychiatrists in Macedonia is a cause of great concern and alarm.

A group of Roma non-governmental organizations, together with Erduan Iseni, Mayor of Shuto Orizari Municipality, and a group of Roma politicians believe that the “Shutka Book of Records” documentary, showing in “Kultura” Cinema in Skopje, is a direct insult and ridicules the Roma.
