Do you get frustrated when politicians refuse to take action for global justice or climate change until other countries agree as well - and of course nothing ever happens? Some election candidates have adopted the principle of Simultaneous Policy which commits them to work with other governments to overcome this impasse.

The royal prerogative is a medieval procedure which allows the Prime Minister to exercise certain powers without reference to Parliamant - such as going to war on Iraq. Tony Blair must be wishing today that he had not dumped Labour policy to control use of the prerogative in 1994.

This appeal by Greenpeace activists found guilty of trespass during an anti-war protest is one of a number of cases in which the defence attempted unsuccessfully to call the Attorney General as a witness. Now that the infamous opinion has been published, perhaps Lord Goldsmith will be summoned by judges to appear in court?

Another new regional airport opens today near Doncaster. Whatever the politics of cheap flights, it is increasingly clear that the absence of VAT or fuel tax creates an absurd competitive advantage for aviation in an era of rising oil prices. The hasty upward revision of passenger projections is further evidence that this form of travel is out of control.

YouGov polls have attracted interest in the election as they adopt new media communication tools. In this poll commissioned by the Make Poverty History campaign, the results suggest overwhelming preference for more action on poverty - which is baffling because the mainstream media are saying that war and world poverty are not electoral issues.

For Greenpeace campaigners, John Prescott symbolises the "all talk and no action" record of Labour on climate change, in his case the failure to tighten up building regulations for energy efficiency. His own home will now set a good example thanks to a visit from Greenpeace to fit new solar panels.

Whilst the politicans boast of their relative abilities to limit immigration, a student campaign provides a welcome positive attitude towards asylum-seekers. The call is that pupils established in school or university should not suffer the disruption of deportation in any circumstance.

Unreasonable treatment of your neighbours can land you with an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO). Why not apply the same principle between countries? Campaigners say that the UK is guilty on many counts in its relationship with developing countries and that each of the main parties deserves an ASBO.

Neither the political parties nor the media seem inclined to devote election space to world poverty and human rights. Under pressure from campaigners, the main parties have agreed to earmark April 24th as a day to focus on poverty issues - April 24th is a Sunday.

Some 10 million people in over 70 countries were expected to take part in the Global Week of Action for Trade Justice last Monday through Friday. One of the largest and most star-studded events took place in London, as 25,000 people stayed up all night to call for fair trade, not free trade.
