Nikola Gegaj, Member of Serbia and Montenegro Parliament, strongly condemned the recent attack and beating up of the Vucic couple in Kosovo. He demanded urgent action by UNMIK Police to discover the perpetrators and to make the security of all citizens the priority on the path to establishment of new relations and multiethnic tolerance in Kosovo.

Last week, MANS organized a public debate in Budva, to discuss the problem of corruption in Montenegro. Citizens believe that poverty is one of the main reasons for the prevalence of corruption, and complained about the lack of clear political will to fight the corruption.

The students of Novi Pazar (Sandjak region) secondary schools protested today, demanding greater security in their schools. The protest was organized by Urban In local NGO, under the motto “We Want Safe and Secure Schools”.

The danger to make ethnic cleansing and war crimes an important factor of the new Serb national identity is very real. After DjindjicÂ’s assassination, we have witnessed an open retreat to the ethno-nationalist policies and refusal to truly face the past and cooperate with the Hague Tribunal, says Sonja Biserko, President of the Serbian Helsinki Committee.

The anti-Semitic graffiti that dawned on Belgrade and Negotin several days ago attacked the Jewish cemetery in Belgrade, one electronic media and the NGOs that are “thorn in the side” of the authors of the graffiti. The authorities say that they knew in advance that the “action” was planned. If they knew, why didn’t they act?

The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) protests strongly against the appearance of racist, anti-Semitic graffiti and posters in Belgrade, and attack on Radio Television B92.

Placards with a call to boycott B92 Radio and Television and the graffiti on the Jewish cemetery dawned this morning in Belgrade. Over the night, hate graffiti were painted at the entrance of teh offices of Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia and the Humanitarian Law Centre.

On March 21, the International Anti-Racism Day, eight NGOs opened for signing the “Stop the Conspiracy of Silence” petition at the Republic Square in Belgrade. In addition, the “Fascist Darkness to the Pitts, Part. 2” performance was staged, followed by distribution of leaflets.

To overcome the youth poverty in Serbia, it is necessary to involve the young population in the decision-making processes on local, but also on state level. The Group 484 NGO conducted a survey on youth poverty in Serbia, with the goal to identify the levels of poverty with that population and to collect the youthÂ’s proposal how to eliminate poverty.

Representatives of nongovernmental organizations and political parties organized a gathering at the Republic Square in Belgrade on the occasion of the International Women Day, under the “No Retreat – We Defend Our Rights” motto. The action demonstrated the force of women solidarity and mutual support. The organizers demand full respect of the basic women human right – the possibility for the women to make their own decisions, to choose whether and when to bear children, to have the right to a safe and efficient abortion, and to have the right of sexual preference.

Almost 63 percent of the citizens believe that the economic and social human righst are violated in Montenegro, and one half of the polled citizens in a recent poll organized by Centre for Monitoring – CEMI believes that the state institutions resist the recommendations of the Ombudsman. CEMI implemented a project for monitoring of the work of the Ombudsman, and the complete report was presented yesterday at a round-table discussion held in Podgorica, yesterday.
