The European Commission Delegation in Serbia opens a public competition for projects in the area of democracy strengthening, human rights and rule of law in the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Montenegro, through the EUÂ’s European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights EIDHR micro-project programme.

A recent survey conducted by Centre for Development of Inclusive Society and Centre for Study of Alternatives shows that 87 percent of the disabled persons in Serbia are unemployed, while 70 percent live in poverty, due to low income they make. The results also show a greater percentage of women with disabilities, compared to men, live with the status of dependent persons.

The Government of Serbia will invest, by the end of 2007, 34 million EUR in electronic governance, announced Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic. The investment has been included in the first sector plan under the auspices of the National Investment Plan in the area of science and electronic governance, adopted recently by the Government.

The former Director General of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), Ahim Steiner, said that the organization adopted a "very purposeful decision" to open its programming regional office for the Southeast Europe in Belgrade, with the goal to provide assistance through advise, but also to help the approximation of national environmental protection policies with EU legislation, under the process of European integrations.
