In 1996, a group of students, with financial assistance from the Montenegro Open Society Institute, started the work on the “Juventas” Youth Magazine. This initiative later transformed into the OKC Juventas (Youth Cultural Centre). The exact date was January 29, 1996.

After prolonged attempts to get the truth about what happened to their children killed while serving in the Army, in suspect circumstances, from the Army and other state institutions, their parents established the “Parents in Black” Association, as an organized attempt to get to the truth.

The Parliamentary Elections in Serbia proceeded in line with international standards, reports the International Election Observation Mission (IEOM). The Elections provided the citizens with a true opportunity to select from a wide array of political platforms and were conducted in accordance with OSCE criteria and the Council of Europe standards on democratic elections, yet, there are certain provisions in election legislation that need to be reviewed, claims IEOM.

Izbori u Srbiji protekli su u skladu s međunarodnim standardima, saopštila je Međunarodna izborna posmatračka misija (IEOM). Izbori su građanima Srbije pružili istinsku mogućnost da biraju iz čitavog spektra političkih platformi i sprovedeni su u skladu sa zahtevima OEBS-a i standardima Saveta Evrope koji se odnose na demokratske izbore. Ipak, ostaju pojedine odredbe izbornog zakonodavstva koje je potrebno razmotriti, navodi se u saopštenju.

The Humanitarian Law Centre addressed Boris Tadic, Serbian President, to warn him about the situation concerning Lakic Djorovic, lieutenant colonel of Serbian Army, who is exposed to abuse, humiliation and threats to his own life and the safety of his family ever since 2000, when he first talked publicly about war-crimes in Kosovo, and of which he knew due to his position as military prosecution officer in Pristina.

Awaiting the Parliamentary Elections, scheduled to take place on January 21, the Gay-Straight Alliance and the Anti-Trafficking Centre organized a debate on the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination and regulations on status of sexual minorities. Only the representatives of the Democratic Party, the LDP-GSS-SDU-LSV Coalition and G17 Plus answered the invitation and appeared at the event.

The Centre for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID), with the support by the Institute for Sustainable Communities, implements the “Responsible Politics Through Greater Citizen Participation” project, which aims to introduce the citizens with the platforms of political parties and promote higher turnout of voters in the Elections scheduled to take place on January 21, 2007.

The Youth Initiative for Human Rights called upon the authorities to stop the practice of non-sanctioning of writing racist, nationalist and fascist graffiti in Serbia. The authorities are legally obligated to react strongly and sanction the perpetrators of such criminal offences.

The Civil Society Advocacy Initiative (CSAI) opened the competition for support to advocacy activities of civil society organizations in Serbia. The projects should promote civil society and strengthening of CSOs in Serbia, through advocacy, support for civic activism and legal reforms. Majority of approved grants shall amount between 50,000 and 75,000 US Dollars per year. Deadline for Application expires on February 5, 2007.
