29.12.2006 Maailman ruokaohjelma WFP on joutunut lopettamaan humanitaarisen avun jakamisen helikoptereilla Somalian tulva-alueille maassa puhjenneiden väkivaltaisuuksien vuoksi. Väkivaltaisuudet häiritsevät myös ruoka-avun toimittamista maanteitse. Somalia kärsii pahimmista tulvista lähes kymmeneen vuoteen. Niitä ennen maata koetteli ankara kuivuus.

Varat käytetään Kansainvälisen Punaisen Ristin ja Somalian Punaisen Puolikuun tekemään avustustyöhön. Kansainvälinen Punainen Risti on huolissaan erityisesti haavoittuneista, sotavangeista sekä sodan jalkoihin jääneistä siviileistä.
