La couverture de l'information algérienne par les médias étrangers est menacée par une nouvelle décision du ministère de la Culture et de la Communication, qui désormais refuse d'accréditer un même journaliste pour plusieurs médias étrangers. Un décret devrait être prochainement adopté pour entériner cette mesure.

The practice of targeting aid workers has now spread to Sudan, where a compound for staff from several UN agencies was attacked last week, causing the suspension of relief activities in the area. Although not yet clear, it appears the attack was carried out by an armed group excluded from the peace talks between Sudan's government and the SPLM/A.

Le 22 décembre 2002, le ministère des affaires étrangères et du commerce international du Canada, nous informait de la libération par les autorités tunisiennes de Béchir Saad, un citoyen canadien arrêté en juin 2002 lorsqu'il visitait sa famille dans son pays natal. Cependant, 14 mois après sa libération, ce dernier ne peut toujours pas rentrer au Canada. Amnistie internationale vous invite à agir pour que la liberté complète lui soit rendue.

As Sudanese peace negotiators returned to the table in Kenya, human rights and relief groups decried the worsening of conditions in Darfur, where one group reported the massacre of 81 civilians by pro-government militia.

Tunisias president will be in Washington Tuesday for talks with Pres. Bush. Tunisia has become an ally in the 'war on terror,' but wages its own terror war against human rights activists and the media. Human rights and press freedom groups here are urging Bush to take Tunisia to task for its repressive policies.

On the same day it announced permission for humanitarian aid groups to aid beleagured civilians in Darfur, Sudan's government continued aerial bombardments in the area, further undermining the tenuous peace talks that just a short time ago seemed to be making progress.

Hundreds of thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their lives as a result of attacks by the Sudanese Army and Army-backed militias against villages and towns in the remote western province of Darfur since last February, according to a new report released by Amnesty International.

La ville frontalière de Tine au Tchad a été touchée par plusieurs bombes le 29 janvier au matin, tuant et mutilant des civils tchadiens. Selon des expatriés de Médecins sans frontières (MSF) travaillant à Tine, le bombardement mené par des avions soudanais a eu lieu vers 8 heures hier matin. Des milliers de réfugiés fuyant la province du Darfour au Soudan continuent de venir chercher refuge à Tine, située à côté du lit de la rivière asséchée (« waddi »),qui marque la frontière entre le Tchad et le Soudan.
