UNICEFin raportti tutki entisten Neuvostoliiton maiden taloudellista kasvua keskiarvoja syvemmin ja totesi alueen lasten hyvinvoinnissa olevan jyrkkiä eroja. Hyvästä 1990-luvun lopun taloudellisesta kasvusta huolimatta joka neljäs alle 15-vuotiaista lapsista elää äärimmäisessä köyhyydessä Kaakkois-Euroopassa ja entisen Neuvostoliiton alueella.

Tule muistuttamaan hänelle, että sananvapaus ja ihmisoikeudet Venäjällä ovat retuperällä. Riippumattomat toimittajat ja ihmisoikeusaktivistit tekevät työtään henkensä kaupalla.

Kansalaisyhteiskunnan vahtikoira CIVICUS tuomitsi Venäjän tuomioistuimen tavan soveltaa uutta ristiriitaista lakia. Tuomioistuin määräsi lopetettavaksi Venäjä-Tshetshenia -seuran, joka on ollut kriittinen hallituksen politiikkaa kohtaan.

Ministarstvo okolia prostornog uređenja i graditeljstva objavilo je na svojim Internet stranicama (www.mzopu.hr) saetak studije utjecaja na okoli za produljenje rada NE Pacs u Mađarskoj, stotinjak kilometara od Hrvatske granice. Zelena akcija smatra da je navedena studija nedostatna i stoga trai njenu dopunu.

The Open Society Justice Initiative, an operational program of the Open Society Institute (OSI), joins with Central European University (CEU) to announce the Justice Initiative Fellows Program for 2007-2009. The aim of the program is to support and expand a network of lawyers and activists working internationally on human rights-related issues. Established in 1996, the Justice Initiative Fellows Program has graduated 155 fellows from more than 20 countries.

Anna Politkovskaja, an investigative journalist widely known for exposing rights abuses by Russian troops in Chechnya, was shot dead in her apartment block in central Moscow Saturday. She is also remembered for her role as the negotiator with the Chechen rebels who held a siege in a Moscow theatre in 2002.
