The Pan American Health Organization on Monday launched a week-long initiative to prevent measles, polio, rubella and other diseases in the Americas through immunization. The focus this year is on indigenous groups especially those living in rural border areas.

As the U.S. Congress prepares to consider the free trade treaty with Central America known as CAFTA, Oxfam America's partners from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador sent fair trade advocates to Washington D.C. The representatives gave firsthand accounts of the adverse consequences of CAFTA on small farmers, agricultural workers, indigenous people, and the environment in Central America. Hear their stories.

U.S. policymakers will vote on the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) in the next week. Food First is staging a national call-in day against CAFTA on April 13, to prevent the marginalisation of small farmers in Central America and the United States, and urges you to join in.

2005 got off to a bad start for human rights organizations in Guatemala. In January alone, rights groups or their workers suffered three break-ins, two murders, a bomb scare, threatening phone calls and several death threats.

O 24 de março é um dia em que a Igreja de El Salvador relembrou os 25 anos do assassinato do Arcebispo de San Salvador, Dom Oscar Arnulfo Romero, que foi exemplo na luta em defesa dos direitos humanos. Relembra também todos o mártires da América Latina, que seguiram a teologia da Libertação, movimento da Igreja católica progressista que nos anos setenta e oitenta enfrentou a repressão das ditaduras militares da América latina, denunciando torturas, massacres, prisões arbitrarias e outras violações frequentes dos direitos humanos.
