More than 100 child activists gathered in Mexico City Tuesday on the eve of World Water Day to draw attention to the water crisis and its effects on children in underdeveloped countries worldwide. Access to safe and clean water affects every aspect of their lives, the children say.

MEXICO CITY, Mar 9 (IPS) - Seven out of 10 Mexican television viewers watch channels belonging to the Televisa consortium, while two out of 10 watch TV Azteca channels. Radio broadcasting stations are concentrated in the hands of 13 business groups.

Community radio is so important to Guatemala's rural and indigenous populations that it was specifically protected under the 1996 Peace Accords, but government raids over the past week are threatening the survival of all six of the country's community radio associations.

A controversial bill before the U.S. Congress would authorize a 700-mile border fence between Mexico and the U.S. and criminalize immigrants, their families, and organizations that advocate on their behalf, say faith, labor and rights leaders rallying in Washington, D.C. Tuesday.

The World Development Movement (WDM) plans to hold a meet at the World Water Forum (WWF) in Mexico to explain that water privatisation projects are failing all over the world but still continue to be promoted. WDM is a British organisation that had launched its "Dirty Aid, Dirty Water" campaign in 2005, to challenge the belief that the solution to the global water crisis is water privatisation.
