30.04.2007 International watchdog Reporters Without Borders has condemned threats made by Sri Lankan Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapakse, younger brother of the president, against the editor of the Daily Mirror, Champika Liyanaarachchi. The minister also threatened to "exterminate" a journalist on the newspaper, for writing articles about the plight of civilian victims of the war.

23.04.2007 Plans by Bangladesh's military-backed "interim" government to exile the leaders of the two main parties ran into a problem when the High Court asked the government to explain why it should not produce former prime minister Khaleda Zia to prove that she is not under house arrest. Yesterday, too, British Airways refused to fly Zia's rival, Sheikh Hasina, to Dhaka on the grounds that it had been told the flight would not be allowed to land.

22.04.2007 Bangladesh's military-backed "interim" government has tightened its grip by virtually expelling the leaders of the two main parties: Khaleda Zia was set to leave for Saudi Arabia today while Sheikh Hasina was barred from boarding a flight home in London this afternoon after the authorities in Dhaka asked airlines to prevent her returning home.

20.04.2007 Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), on April 18, 2007, released its latest publication entitled, 'Sewage Canal: How to Clean the Yamuna'. CSE also premiered a 32-minute video on the subject, 'Faecal Attraction: Political Economy of Defecation', which explodes various myths about river cleaning. At the release function, Sunita Narain,director CSE, pointed out that money and technology cannot revive the Yamuna, and other approaches would have to be adopted.
