27.12.2006 Irakin opetusministeriön mukaan kaksi kolmesta irakilaislapsesta on lopettanut koulunkäynnin. Ennen Yhdysvaltojen johtamaa hyökkäystä maahan keväällä 2003 lähes kaikki maan kouluikäiset olivat opintiellä. Vielä vuonna 2005 noin 75 prosenttia lapsista kävi koulua Pelastakaa lapset -järjestön mukaan.
