At the same time, a week-long period of mourning began in the country to honor a political leader deemed to be one of the most corrupt in world history.

Cadbury Cocoa Partnership
28.01.2008 An initiative "to secure the economic, social and environmental sustainability of around a million cocoa farmers and their communities in Ghana, India, Indonesia and the Caribbean" was unveiled by chocolate manufacturer Cadbury and the UN Development Programme today.

15.01.2008 Human Rights advocates are urging consumers and merchants to shun Burmese gems at the military government's latest auction of precious stones. Human Rights Watch has attacked the gem trade for propping up the military dictatorship and it is felt that western boycotts could significantly hamper the junta’s profits.
