Ken Kitson
As Innovations Coordinator, Ken is always on the lookout for new ways to use information and communications technology to support OneWorld's mission for a "fair and sustainable" world. Like many others at OneWorld, Ken is convinced that climate change is the greatest threat to humanity, and is proud to be working on OneWorld's new climate social networking site OneClimate.net where citizens from around the world can share experiences and inspirations of how to tackle climate change. Ken's main role is to develop the software for the site which is based on open source Wordpress blog software, but he also helps manage the project and contributes material to the site. His previous role at OneWorld was as software architect for the Open Knowledge Network. This was a G8-backed project to help bridge the world's digital divide by encouraging the generation and sharing of locally-generated digital content from disadvantaged communities in Africa and Asia. Ken designed and built the software in partnership with the National Informatics Centre of India, and was privileged to carry out training and see the software in action in Kenya and India. When he has a few hours to spare, Ken makes furniture using traditional hand tools. He has a love of all things wood, mostly UK trees, but hasn't started hugging them as yet. |
