Peter Armstrong - Director of OneWorld International Peter is co-founder of the OneWorld Network, OneWorld International Foundation director, co-director and multimedia project director for OneWorld UK. Thanks to Peters innovative use of all forms of media, his powerful beliefs in global social justice and his passion for gadgets, OneWorld has become cutting edge in harnessing media technology to benefit people who need it most. In February 2004, he won a Special Lifetime Award at the BAFTA Interactive Awards for his contribution to the digital industry. Peter is a former radio and TV producer for the BBC, which he helped push into the digital era. During his 20 years with the BBC he made groundbreaking TV documentaries like Everyman and Global report, which won the United Nations Association Peace Prize; he founded and edited the acclaimed Domesday project in 1983, bringing together millions of UK citizens to produce an interactive record of Great Britain; and created the award-winning Interactive Television Unit in 1986, and became its chair when it floated as the MultiMedia Corporation. Peter and Anuradha launched OneWorld from their home in 1995. Now it has grown into a global network connecting people around the world and brings together more than 1,500 partners supporting human rights and sustainable development. Peter is a policy advisor to governments and international bodies on the use of information and communications technology for global sustainable development. And he is a trustee of the charity Accenture Development Partnerships.
Britt Jorgensen - Project Manager Britt works with OneWorld UK on projects using mobile phones for social good. Responsibilities include project and strategy planning, developing new projects and opportunities and overseeing the Mobile for Good and Learning about Living projects. Britt has also led OneWorlds involvement in two policy papers for Department for International Development (DfID) and Commission for Africa on the impact of mobile phones in Africa. Britt holds a BA and MA in Information Studies - an interdisciplinary course about the influence of technology on people, organisations and society. She used to do research into digital technology and sustainable development for the UK thinktank Forum for the Future and is co-author of the book Making the Net Work - Sustainable Development in a Digital Society. She has also worked on global digital divide issues at Metrocomia a new media company with joint ventures in the South. Before leaving her native Denmark for London in 2000 Britt worked at Scandinavias leading think tank, Mandag Morgen on human capital, learning and creativity. Occasionally you can catch Britts technology features on the National Danish Radio airwaves. She also practices jivamukti yoga and spends making her baby son laugh.
Gopal D. Gobiratnam - Software Architect Gopal is OneWorlds software architect and technical project manager. This means he designs, builds, develops and tests the overall structure and functions of the software that enables us to produce OneWorld Radio, TV, Web and Mobile. This requires not only a great deal of technical, creative and organisational skill, but serious patience to put up with our demands to tweak this or redo that. He is currently working his magic on our mobile platforms Lifelines India and Mobile for Good. Since starting with OneWorld in 1997, Gopal has been software engineer, technical manager, senior developer and software architect. He no doubt worked wonders at People Bank (online jobs agency), Associated mediabase, World Sports Network and eForce Inc. When hes not glued to his computer Gopal helps out in his local community and practises yoga. |
